Acusensus‘ partnership with Devon and Cornwall Police was recently highlighted in a BBC News article, which focuses on the impact of our road safety program. This initiative underscores the shared commitment Acusensus and Devon and Cornwall Police collectively have to improve driver behaviour and save lives on our roads.

In 2024, Devon and Cornwall Police became the first UK county to utilise Acusensus technology in the region in a long term program. This program aims to create a lasting change in behaviours to ultimately reduce road trauma. This is particularly important especially because, as highlighted in the BBC article, a significant proportion of young people aged 16 to 24 that were involved in fatal road accidents were not wearing seatbelts.

We are proud to support the UK’s Vision Zero initiative, committing to zero deaths and serious injuries across the road network. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners in the UK to work towards changing behaviours and saving lives.

The ACT Government’s distracted driving program, utilising Acusensus solutions, can now expand to include seatbelt enforcement, which has been reported to begin on the 3rd of November 2025. This significant step forward comes as an amendment to the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999 and the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Regulation 2017 has been passed, in an effort to enhance road safety for all Canberrans.

The integration of seatbelt detection alongside existing mobile phone detection capabilities allows the ACT Government to address two of the most prevalent factors contributing to road deaths and injuries.

Acusensus is proud to support the ACT Government in their mission to achieve significant improvements in road safety.

The Western Australia Road Safety Commission is taking a significant step in protecting regional communities with the expansion of its road safety camera program using Acusensus technology. We are proud to see this road safety program extend to regional roads, beginning in the Great Southern region.

This initiative reinforces a shared commitment to making WA roads safer, especially in regional areas, where road fatalities more commonly occur in the state.

This program leverages Acusensus’ Multi-function technology, designed to detect multiple behaviours that contribute to road trauma, simultaneously. The solution addresses mobile phone use, seatbelt non-compliance and speeding, providing comprehensive enforcement capabilities on regional roads.

Our Pledge: Partnering for a Fatality Free Friday and Safer Roads Globally https://www.acusensus.com/our-pledge-partnering-for-a-fatality-free-friday-and-safer-roads-globally/ Thu, 29 May 2025 23:12:46 +0000 https://www.acusensus.com/?p=1724 Today marks Fatality Free Friday, an important initiative by the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) that calls on all road users to prioritise safety over convenience, and strive for a day without road fatalities.

Today marks Fatality Free Friday, an important initiative by the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) that calls on all road users to prioritise safety over convenience, and strive for a day without road fatalities. This year’s message is particularly poignant, with new research from the ARSF indicating that more work still needs to be done in the road safety space to reduce fatalities: more than 2/3 of Australian drivers admit to dangerous behaviour on the road (68%), 7 in 10 admit to experiencing some form of distraction while driving, and 42% would rather give up social media for a year than stop speeding (Source 1).

One way to reduce fatalities is through enforcement. Partnering with organisations and government departments across Australia, we are educating people to choose safe driving behaviours. In their first two years utilising Acusensus safety camera technology to detect driving behaviours, Queensland and New South Wales road fatalities reduced by 10% and 21% respectively (Source 2,3). Our focus remains on developing and delivering solutions that support a vision zero approach, helping to create safer roads for all Australians.

This Fatality Free Friday, let’s reflect on our individual responsibility in making our roads safer. Our choices behind the wheel matter, and we encourage everyone to make safe choices on our roads, today and every day.

This National Road Safety Week, we join SARAH: Safer Australian Roads and Highways and communities across Australia in acknowledging the vital importance of road safety. Today’s theme, “Your Speed Matters,” highlights the importance of preventing serious injuries and fatalities on our roads. Every kilometre counts, and choosing safe speeds is a choice we can all make to play our part in making our communities safer.

Across Australia, innovative programs are making a tangible difference in managing speed and enhancing road safety. The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads utilises Acusensus‘ transportable trailer-based solutions to address speeding in various locations, including regional areas across the state. In New South Wales, Transport for NSW employs Acusensus’ mobile car-based platforms to ensure safer speeds and in Western Australia, Acusensus’ world first multi-functional enforcement solution is deployed state-wide targeting point and average speed (alongside phone distraction and seatbelt enforcement). These varied approaches recognise that each community and jurisdiction has unique road safety needs, yet these communities all work towards discouraging speeding behaviours, leading to safer roads.

As advocates for road safety, we believe that collaborative efforts contribute to a future with fewer road fatalities. “Your Speed Matters” is a reminder that we can all make an impact on the safety of everyone on our roads. Let’s all remember to drive at safe speeds and help save lives.

At the Australian Road Safety Conference 2024, Acusensus Founder and Managing Director, Alexander Jannink, spoke about the increasing potential of enforcement in shaping driver behaviour. Enforcement has proven to be an effective educational tool as it places emphasis on safeguarding all road users and fostering a culture of responsible driving.

The Transportable Road Safety Camera Program, a trailer based speed enforcement program with Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland, demonstrated the impact of enforcement tools. Initial data revealed concerning levels of speeding, with hundreds of drivers exceeding limits by over 40 km/h. Following the QLD Transportable Speed Program utilising Acusensus’ Harmony solution, a shift occurred – a reduction of over 90% in dangerous speeding incidents underscores the program’s effectiveness in promoting safer roads.

To hear Alex’s insights on the role of enforcement in road safety, watch the clip below:

This April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month in the United States. Partnering with Sergeant Adam Moore and the Highway 7 Safety Coalition, Acusensus is using our Heads-Up Real-Time Solution to detect distracted driving behaviours in the United States.

Since February 2025, our system has securely sent photos of drivers on their phone to officers parked down the road. An officer reviews the images and decides whether to issue a citation and reinforce safe driving behaviours. We are optimistic our partnership will encourage people to drive without their phones, both during and after Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
